The usual answer is that we produce and host private play parties and fun local events for kinky queers. True statement, but so is this:
The Gay Barn provides a container for queers to explore and celebrate their authentic selves through the creative joy of being a big ol’ kinky gay slut.
Over the last year and a half of Gay Barn events, I have noticed that when we give ourselves permission to honor our enthusiastic yes’s, without judging ourselves or worrying about the optics - our spirits start to light up. We make genuine connections. And those effects ripple out into our lives beyond the container of The Gay Barn.
More than a few people, from novice kinksters to long-term players, have told me that coming to The Gay Barn retreat play parties, and even our cute dance party Strapped, has changed their lives for the better.
It feels wild to write that but it’s true- for many, experiencing The Gay Barn has initiated periods of beautiful transformation.
It’s no secret that things are tough right now for most of us. And with the collective grief, horror, and disgust at the injustices of the world - especially seeing the Palestinian genocide worsen every day - it can feel unreasonable to prioritize pleasure, self-expression, and queer joy.
But celebrating being alive as a queer sexual creative being is a sacred act. Feeling fully alive in our sacred bodies within safe spaces builds resilience and endurance.
If any of this resonates with you, come check out one of our events. Give yourself permission to follow your own enthusiastic yes’s. Even if it does not transform your life, it will still be a damn good time! And that is something precious in itself.
Below are some of my favorite pictures of queer joy, Gay Barn style. The first four dreamy photos are by the talented Mason Rose.
